GREEN COVER ENHANCEMENT
• The port premises currently have approximately 16000 trees with girth sizes ranging from 15 cm to 200 cm contributing to a robust green cover within city areas working as lungs for the city.
• Bamboo being one of the most efficient plants for carbon sequestration, Mumbai port has decided to plant more and more bamboo in available space, and completed first phase with over 55,000 grown bamboo plants.
• 6600 plants have been planted in Miyawaki technique for developing into a multi layered high-density green ecosystem.
• 4.6 ha area has been developed as integrated green ecosystem providing habitat to the local avifauna. The ecosystem provides perfect example of synergy between human activities, waste recycling, flora and fauna.
• Mumbai Port plantation drive is on and targeted to plant 100000 trees in next few years.
