The Central Kitchen situated in the Victoria Dock caters about 2000 MbPT employees through departmental Canteens
2. This kitchen generates about 18-20 kgs of kitchen waste daily. As a step towards a green initiative, this waste is recycled on the tearrace of this kitchen building admeasuring about 3000 sq.ft. area.
3. The technique to recycle the waste was learnt from Dr. R.T. Doshi through a one day workshop conducted for canteen staff in the year 2002. From 2 saplings in year 2002, the terrace now houses more than 150 varieties of flowers, fruits, ornamental, herbal and medicinal plants.
4. A canteen staff initiative this terrace has won 1st prize award consecutively during the last few years in the competition hosted by National Council for Friends of Trees.
5. This year, this garden has won the 1st prize in the competition held by MCGM under the slot of ’Podium Garden’s’.
